Sony anounces partnership with Xiaomi for its TV range

Xiaomi has emerged as one of the biggest and fastest growing company not only in China, but across the world. This fact becomes clear as Sony gave Xiaomi a hand of partnership. As stated by the Ta Kung Pao website located in Hong Kong, the recent partnership of Sony Visual Products and China’s Xiaomi Technology will fare well.

Considering Sony’s relatively good standing in the Chinese market, and the Chinese market’s influence in America, Sony’s venture has been a wise and expected step. However, with this endeavour, Sony will now have to differentiate itself from foreign competitors.
Sony, a company oriented in quality and aesthetically pleasing products, is somewhat weak in its development of User Interface (UI). As a result, its venture with UI-familiar and internet entrepreneurial Xiaomi will be a beneficial collaboration.
Sony’s recent TV line will be entirely compatible with Xiaomi’s smart-TV UI integration that will combine the Sony TV to the Xiaomi Box which has the ability to make an ordinary TVs a Smart TVs. Xiaomi’s new box supports the stronger 4K definition.
In addition to Xiaomi, Sony has also joined hands with other Chinese corporations Baidu, Wasu TV and Duomi to offer video and photo content via cloud services as well as content portals for Sony. Sony has shown wisdom with these recent collaborations and is sure to move a step forward from its competitors. Since these smart applications would have cost Sony a huge amount, Sony’s joint ventures will help give the company a competitive advantage in the foreign market.
Following Sony’s example, American based TV makers are likely to partner with foreign makers in order to increase profits in the near future.
This Sony-Xiaomi partnership will also be beneficial for Xiaomi and we must say that people at Xiaomi know how to move ahead in this business world.

Fix For Pipo W1, Cube iWork 10 And Other Intel Atom Z3740D Tablets

Shit can happen at any time. This was just proven once again by my PiPo W1 tablet PC. Out of a sudden it started to shut itself down every 30 minutes. Forget about issues with the operating system – it is something totally different. A look into the Windows device managed did uncover a device called “Intel Trusted Execution Management Interface” showing a yellow warning sign. A double click showed a device status “STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE”. A look into the BIOS unveiled the source of the problem: The fields “SEC RC Version” and “TXE FW Version” were showing “N/A”.
To understand what this means you have to understand that the BIOS of these tablets is consisting of two parts. One part is the boot ROM, setup interface and UEFI stuff that most advanced PC users should be familiar with. But nowadays Intel processors have some more stuff in them than just GPU and CPU. There als is something called a Management Engine. This is controlling several processor parts and also offers security features such as the Trusted Execution Engine or support for TPM modules. Now of course this part of the CPU needs its own Firmware as it is running independently from the operating system and the UEFI / BIOS. And exactly this is the second part of the BIOS which is called “ME Region” or “ME Ignition FW”. Now this is the part that was broken in my PiPo W1.
A quick Google session unveils that I was not the first one to have this issue. A lot of tablets based on the Intel Atom Z3740D from different manufacturers including popular brands like Acer, Asus and Dell have had these issues already. All the guys I was able to find simply returned it and got a new one. But as I am someone who does not give up as fast as others do, I tried to fix it myself. And after over 30 hours of work I found a solution which is very easy to do and doe not take more than 12 minutes to do. In this tutorial I want to tell you how you can fix this issue, in case you have it as well.
Everything within the following tutorial is done at your own risk! Neither me or anyone else at ChinaMobileMag can be held responsible for any possible damage caused to your tablet while modifying its system firmware.
  • Step 1: Download this package which is containing all the needed tools and images. Save it directly onto your tablet PC, as all the steps have to be done on it. Extract it into a folder of your choice.
  • Step 2: Now you will have to create a backup of your existing BIOS. This will be needed later on. For this purpose enter the folder you have extracted the archive to. You will see three sub-folders. One of them is called “AFUWIN”. Enter this folder and execute the tool “AFUWINGUI.EXE”. Now a window will appear on which you will see a few buttons on the bottom. Click the “Save” button and save the image to some external media, so it is safe. Once the process has been completed you can close the tool again.
  • Step 3: Now we already start recovering the Intel Management Engine Firmware. For this purpose we are using a BIOS image file for the Onda V975i. As this is a modding BIOS used for porting Windows 8.1 onto this tablet PC, it contains a full copy of the BIOS chip, including the ME area. Yes, this BIOS is not compatible with our device – but this does not matter as long as the tablet does not shut down, as we have created a backup in the previous step. So PLEASE SHUT DOWN your tablet before you continue and boot it up again, just to make sure that it does not shut down in the middle of the process. After you did that, open up a new command line by opening up the Charms Bar, tapping on search and entering “CMD” in there. Then right click on the command line entry and open it with admin rights. Now the command line has opened. Type “cd” followed by a space and then drag and drop the folder “BIOS + TOOL” into the command line and hit enter. Now you are directly inside this folder and can execute commands inside of there. Enter “fptw -f M97_Win_Bios_0714.bin” and hit enter. The flash process will be executed now and this will take a few minutes. Wait for it to finish and don’t touch the tab!
  • Step 4: Now we have flashed the image, but as said before the BIOS might not be fully compatible with your tablet (only the ME part is, as it is the same for all tabs using this processor). So you basically have just bricked it. If you would reboot it now it might be broken. So hurry up before it is shutting down again. We now flash the BIOS image back that we previously created a backup from in step 2. Change back into the AFUWIN folder and execute “AFUWINGUI.EXE” again. This time click on the button “Load” and choose the BIOS image that you have saved to some external media previously. Switch to the “Setup” tab and activate the following check boxes: Programm All Blocks, Main BIOS Image, Boot Block and NVRAM. Now click on the “Flash” button and wait for the process to finish. If some message is popping up, click on “OK”.
  • Step 5: Now we are almost done. We only need to reset the Intel Management Engine / Trusted Execution Engine Chip inside the processor. For this purpose please hold the on / off switch of the tablet until it is powering off (appr. 30 seconds). Now put the type cover on, press the on / off switch to power it on and immediately start hitting the “Del” key until you see the BIOS menu of the tab. Scroll down on the screen you see and check the “SEC RC Version” and “TXE FW Version”. The N/A should have disappeared now and a version number should be shown. If this is the case, our flashing process has been successful and you can exit the BIOS and boot up Windows. Here you open up the device managed and the warning sign next to the Intel Trusted Execution Management Engine Interface should have disappeared as well. Congratulations! Your tablet will work normally again now. This method should work on ANY tablet featuring an Intel Z3740D processor and an AMI Aptio BIOS. This included the Pipo W1, Cube iWork 10 / U100GT, Voyo Winpad A1, Asus Transformer Book T100 and a lot more devices.
Have fun with your working tablet!

Asus Sells 40,000 Zenfones In India In Four Days!

According to Peter Chang, The Regional Head for South Asia & Country Manager for ASUS India, the company has managed to sell over 40,000 units of the Asus Zenfone series – which include the Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5 and the Zenfone 6 in just the first four days of its online sale on Flipkart.com, India’s largest e-commerce store. Chang as clarified that the sales figure of 40,000 phones are from Flipkart alone. Unlike the MI3 though, the Zenfone range would also be available with offline retailers as well.

While the sales figures for the Zenfone certainly sounds impressive, let us not forget the fact that we are talking about three different phones here. Xiaomi has managed the feat with just a single model – and without any advertisements. The prices of the Zenfone range starts from Rs.5999 and goes up to Rs. 16,900. The mid-range model, the five inch variant is priced at Rs. 10,000
“We are overwhelmed by the response… as many as 40,000 units were sold out within the first four days of launch,” Chang said. He expects the sales figures to cross 100,000 in the next few days.
“The Zenfone series stocks have been refilled numerous times and are being restocked at regular intervals,” he told The Indian Express.
When asked about the variant that has been the most popular amongst the three models, he revealed that both the Zenfone 4 and Zenfone 5 are equally popular.
“The response to Zenfone 5 has made us refill our stock numerous times and we are aggressively strategizing to meet the huge demand from the Indian masses.”
That said, he also clarified that the demand for the six inch model too has been higher than their expectations.

The best-selling Windows Phone handset, Nokia Lumia 520 hasn't received the Lumia Cyan update in lots of countries, which is likely to annoy more customers then if Microsoft did not offer the update for Lumia 1020 or other high end product.

Nevertheless, Microsoft does seem to do all it can to provide the Lumia Cyan update to as many devices and as fast as possible.

Nokia Developer Team, which is also part of Microsoft, has recently announced that Lumia Cyan is now rolling out to Nokia Lumia 920 developer edition across all countries.

Basically, those who were handed Nokia Lumia 920 developer devices at press conferences or launch events should be able to upgrade to Lumia Cyan beginning this week.

With the Xiaomi MI3 though, everything changed

With the Xiaomi MI3 though, everything changed.
On the first day of the sale three weeks ago, Flipkart, the exclusive online retailer selling the Xiaomi MI3 crashed. The first sale lasted a tad under 40 minutes. The second? Two seconds – the recent third and fourth sales ended in less than three seconds. And why not? For a very affordable price of Rs.13,999 ($230) people were being sold a phone with specifications that could only be seen on a device that would cost at least Rs.10,000 ($164) more.

Motorola Moto E

Motorola has a long history in the mobile industry and with the rise of Android smart phones, they had brought sexy back with its ultra-thin RAZR smart phone back in 2011. Shortly after that, Motorola Mobility was acquired by Google and under their ownership, they had introduced the very customisable Moto X and its cheap and cheerful Moto G. The Moto G turns out to be their best selling Motorola smart phone in history.
Then early this year, Motorola Mobility was acquired by Lenovo, a Chinese company that has beencoming out strong as a smart phone manufacturer. Despite the change of hands, the Motorola is still focusing on making cheap and cheerful devices that’s futureproof thanks to its pure Android experience.
To target the masses, they’ve recently introduced the Moto E, which brings latest of Android at an even lower price. Read on to find out what we think.

The phone that TMZ thought was the new iPhone

Entertainment tabloid site TMZ has been buzzing with its latest scoop on the new iPhone 6. As people got excited or disappointed with what the next iPhone would look like, the so called exclusive pictures are nothing but a cheap knock off of the purported iPhone 6.
The folks at 9to5Mac had rebutted its claims by pointing out several UI flaws which turn out to be a re-skinned version of Android. The new iPhone would be running on the latest iOS 8 but the interface is rocking on an older iOS 7 apperance. Another giveaway is the overly thick font used for the calendar and the use of Back button on the overlay interface. The exterior design is still heavily based on what has been speculated on the internet for several months now.
While the good news is that this isn’t the real device, will the real iPhone be drastically different from whatwe’ve seen so far? Thankfully we won’t have to wait too long as Apple is said to be announcing the next iPhone this coming 9th September.

The rumor of the upcoming iPhone sporting a sapphire display has been well spread, but we don’t know much about what Apple could be planning to make its smartwatch with. The rumored wearable gadget is now reported to follow the iPhone 6, carrying a sapphire display that will keep it safe from damage.

Opinion: As always, we would be careful trusting these reports. We have found no solid proof of the iWatch’s very existence.
